Bibimbap - WECO Hospitality

Bibimbap

Prep time: 2-3 minutes microwave or 5-7 minutes stovetop

We can’t help but bim n’ bap with excitement about this dish! When it comes to bowls, we’ll never be satisfied with just a couple tasty things, we want an excess of tasty things. And bibimbap, the beloved classic Korean dish (literally, “mixed rice with meat and assorted vegetables'') delivers just that.

A combination of crispy rice, soy, and sesame-marinated beef, sesame spinach, crunchy carrots and bean sprouts, savory roasted shiitakes, cool seaweed salad, tangy kimchi, and fiery gochujang sauce–*oof, give us a sec to catch our breath*–it turns the volume all the way up on both flavor and texture. The dish is commonly served with a runny egg on top, which adds lusciousness to the experience. So, if you want extra credit, we’ve included instructions for that option too!

In your bag

  • Crispy rice, soy & sesame-marinated beef, sesame spinach, carrots, bean sprouts, mushrooms
  • Seaweed salad, kimchi, gochujang sauce

At home

  • Nonstick pan (for stovetop option)
  • Two large eggs & a nonstick pan (optional, for sunny-side-up egg add-on!)

The Bibimbap

Option #1 (in the microwave)

  1. Set aside the seaweed salad, kimchi and gochujang, then add the rest of the ingredients to a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Add a splash of water to your bowl, cover with a damp paper towel, and microwave until warmed to your liking.

Option #2 (on the stove, for some crispy rice crunch!):

  1. Set aside the seaweed salad, kimchi and gochujang
  2. Heat your nonstick pan over medium for ~1 minute.
  3. Add a tablespoon of oil to the pan, then add the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until everything is nice and hot, and the rice is just a little crisped.

Optional Extra Credit: Sunny-side-up Egg

  1. Heat 1 teaspoon of oil or butter in a nonstick pan over medium heat.
  2. Crack in your egg, season it with a little S&P, and cover the pan with a lid. Cook 2-3 minutes until the white is set but the yolk is still runny.

Time to serve! Scoop your warm rice into two bowls, and nestle in little piles of seaweed salad and kimchi on top. Top each bowl with your fried egg (if you made it!), and drizzle that gochujang sauce all over — but start light, it’s got a kick!

That’s it! #Dinnersolved, dinner served.
