Shrimp Biryani Dinner for Two

Prep time: 2-3 minutes microwave or 15-20 minutes oven

In partnership All Things Spiced, based in Acton, MA! This flavor-packed dinner for two stars lime-marinated shrimp served with aromatic basmati rice (with notes of cardamom and cumin) and a dreamy Biryani masala sauce. Plus a side of cooling yogurt based raita with garlic, paprika, and mint for adding to your plate… and fried shallot & lime for a little extra garnish! A crisp, fresh Kachumber salad with fennel, carrots, jicama, orange, and cilantro comes on the side.

In your bag

  • Basmati rice
  • Lime-roasted shrimp
  • Biryani sauce
  • Garlic & mint raita
  • Kachumber salad with fennel, carrots, jicama, orange, and cilantro
  • Fried shallots
  • Lime juice
  • A tin (to assemble your biryani!)

At home

  • Aluminum foil & nonstick cooking spray or a little oil OR microwave-safe bowl & a damp paper towel

How to assemble:

Oven option:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Spray some nonstick cooking spray in the bottom of your pan, or grease with a little bit of oil. Scoop ⅔ of the rice into the bottom and spread it out evenly.
  3. Next, spoon the biryani sauce over the rice and spread it out evenly to cover.
  4. Take your shrimp and arrange them in an even layer over the top of the biryani sauce. Sprinkle half your shallots over the top of the shrimp.
  5. Top with the remaining rice. Spread it evenly across the top, then drizzle your lime juice over the top. 
  6. Finally, sprinkle your remaining fried shallots on top.
  7. Cover tightly with aluminum foil. Place on a sheet tray and pop into the oven for 15-20 minutes or until hot! Pro tip: insert the tip of a knife into the biryani and then test the blade against your wrist to check warmth.
  8. When ready, scoop some shrimp biryani into a bowl and add raita on top. Kachumber salad goes on the side!

Microwave option (only recommended if you’re in a rush!):

  1. Scoop some rice, shrimp, and biryani sauce into a bowl, drizzle lime juice over the rice, cover with a damp paper towel, and microwave until warmed to your liking!
  2. Top with crispy shallots and raita. Kachumber salad goes on the side!
