Thanks for ordering!
If you know me personally, you know that I love pizzeria food. Every town has one- a super solid, reliable pizzeria that has everything from calzones to BLT subs. I’ll often go for the classic steak bomb- shaved steak with peppers, mushrooms, and onions on a hoagie roll with provolone cheese, and ample amounts of hot sauce added by me. It’s great comfort food. Chef Mike wanted to put a steak and cheese sub on the menu, and I was immediately enthused. However, rather than just doing a replica of steak and cheese subs that we all know so well, we had to put our signature WECO spin on it. Instead of provolone, we made a cheddar cheese sauce, and a pickled cucumber and jalapeno relish. What do you eat with a steak sub? Potatoes- in this case steak fries, and our famous WECO slaw. So, channel your inner sandwich chef- you’re about to dive into WECO’s first steak sub. Get in there!
For the sandwiches:
Set your oven to high broil. Lay out the steak, peppers, onions and mushrooms on a sheet tray lined with foil. Broil until everything is nice and hot, and it gets some caramelization. Once it’s hot, spread the cheese sauce all over everything, and broil for a quick second more. Set it aside and prepare for sandwich building!
I’d toast my bun, but these potato hoagies (they are insane) are so soft that you may not want yours toasted. Toast, or don’t toast, your call. Fill the subs with the steak and veggies, and top with some pickled jalapeno relish. Devour immediately.
For the steak fries:
Wedge cut fries are the best. For these, broil them in the oven when the steak comes out, for a few minutes until nice and crispy.
For the slaw:
Just… just go for it. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks again for ordering, and we hope you have a wonderful weekend 🙂
